Fatma Canan Durgungöz
I study how children with developmental language disorder and other special educational needs can participate, communicate, and thrive — with the support of families, educators, and thoughtfully designed technology.
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education at Mersin University and a Postdoctoral Researcher in Psychology at the University of Bath. I hold a PhD in Special and Inclusive Education from the University of Nottingham.
I also serve as Social Contribution Coordinator at Mersin University, since September 2026.
My research centres on developmental language disorder (DLD), special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and the thoughtful use of digital and AI-based tools in special education. Recently I've explored emotion-recognition interventions for children with DLD and their parents, technology-mediated participation for neurodivergent students in higher education, and AI-assisted tools for special education teaching.
